By-products are like the beaks, feet, ligaments, intestines, and bones all ground up. This is not too appetizing for the cat and its not 100% healthy. If you check the back of a few of the canned cat foods next time, look for one that says something’s like chicken, chicken gravy, chicken by-products etc. Try to see if you can find one that doesn't have by-products or it’s farther down the list of ingredients.
Nutro and other natural food companies do not use by products..I think. I just got some for my pregnant queen. She loves nutro (wet food) and I still give her Iams kitten. Nutro isn't too bad in price just a bit more than Iams. The only place it's available is at Petsmart though. Walmart and discount stores do not have it.
By products are unconsumable leftovers that lower quality pet foods include. If you check the ingredients list, many cheaper lower quality foods have by products listed first. Its better if its not in there or if it is farther down the ingredient list. I can't feed my cats food besides Proplan and Science Diet Id b/c as everyone knows Sugar throws up on anything else, otherwise I'd love to feed them something a bit healthier.
Good statements from all, but by-products are not bad entirely. They can serve as a good source of HIGH protein, as it is often used in ferret diets, HOWEVER, it's not good to have it as the only, or one of the main sources of protein, because that means it's what the food is mostly made up of.
