I found a new lump by her shoulder blade area - very small, pea-sized. Here's her previous surgery and amputation story:

She's having surgery on Monday, but the vet thinks it feels like it's already attached to muscle and may be even deeper. It's a very aggressive type of tumor, if it's the same as the last one. If it has reached bone, they can't amputate her only remaining front leg or shoulder. They'll remove as much as they can and send it off for a diagnosis. Of course, since I've moved 500 miles away, it's a new vet, which is always a bit uncertain. But everyone in the clinic fell in love with my little girl, even other clients in the waiting room.

I'm trying to hope for the best. My biggest concern is what would Charlee do without her, they've been inseparable since birth.

Here they are watching a scary movie with me, holding hands:

Well, I found a new, larger lump on her neck yesterday, most likely inoperable. I'll see what the surgeon has to say on Monday. :(

Thanks for the kind words, but the second tumor is the one that has me worried. It's probably already embedded in and around her neck. I'm still hoping for some good news, though.

I hope tomorrow brings you some good news. Keep us all posted. Hopefully with the second one they can remove maybe some of it for her if not all of it. I'll hope and pray thats the case for you both.

I cancelled the surgery and went to another vet. I just didn't feel right. Plus, they weren't even going to take x-rays or other radiology scans. They were too surgery-happy. My new vet (who I love!!) said he wouldn't even attempt the surgery because the chances of getting it all with the largest tumor on the neck are almost impossible. He said at the very least, it most likely already involves the spinal cord. He referred me to an oncology specialist, but she's booked out until May 22nd. I'm going to get another opinion today from my sister's vet who offered to see Cali when my sister called her for a referral to a specialist. I've already met her when I accompanied my sister to an appointment for her dogs. At this point, it's probably a quality of life issue. She'll tell me what signs to look for, etc.

I don't want to say goodbye to Cali, but I'll do what's best for her, I won't keep her around just for me. :(

She confirmed that the tumor is most likely inoperable, that the surgery would be radical and extensive and still wouldn't get it all. Radiation to shrink the tumors would be so harsh and would only extend her life by a few months, if that, and her quality of life would not be great. She said to take her home and love her and spoil her and enjoy the weeks we have left together.

Sorry the news was not good.

Enjoy your time. It is special. Make sure you get pictures, if she looks happy enough for them. Much sympathy to you. Waiting and watching is so hard.

Thank you. I would like to stress to everyone, Trust your gut! If you don't feel comfortable, do not hesitate to get other opinions. I felt a little guilty at first because my San Diego vet had to send over Cali's records to three different clinics, but I got over it quickly. This is my little girl and I'm going to do my very best for her.

I am sorry to hear this too. I can't even imagine the sadness and pain you must be going through now. I hope that your remaining time with Cali will be full of happiness and lots of cuddles. Sending you lots of prayers and hugs from Jakarta...
