We have new 3 year old male cat. He's been with us for 4 months. We also have an 11 year old pitty mix who is quite friendly. She is good with the cat but cat not so much. He does let dog approach him can be nose to nose momentarily. Cat is ok with us but doesn't like to be petted too much. Prefers to be by himself unless it's meal time then he's all friendly rubbing at my legs. I would really like to see dog and cat to be friends and be close to each other. Is that even possible?

We are in almost the same situation. I also have a sweet 11 years old pitty. My cat is 8 months. She does not like him and recently tried to attack him. I wish they could be friends too. I spend a lot of time with them both. The pitty just ignores her.
I hope this wont be your case. I'm also looking for advise. This my first cat. Anyway I wish you good luck!

I have an adult dog and a small kitten, and there are no problems they became friends:) If they have been together since childhood, then there is no problem, I think. They even eat together. I was looking for food for the dog because the dog has allergic and the vet advised me to eat special food Home - Petsmatters.net he said that there are a lot of vitamins and good substances for the dog and the allergy has passed with time. The funny thing is that then the cat also ate this food and the dog specially waited and shared with the cat:)
