Cat ate a couple bites of food on surgery day

My guy is scheduled for teeth cleaning and two extractions today. I put up all food last night, and this morning he was sleeping while I fed the other cat. Pretty soon I noticed that surgery cat wasn't on the bed and had gotten over to the food and looked like he only had a couple bites. But still. He couldn't have ate more than an ounce , but he was licking his lips. I'm not even positive he did eat, but it looked like it. Will he be OK? He really needs those teeth out asap, and I believe they are booked for the week. And last night he hardly ate at all. I know of other cats who have been in for emergency surgeries with food in their tummys and they did fine. We are still several hours away from leaving for the vet, and I don't know how long till the actual surgery. I hope someone can get back to me before I go. I will of course tell the vet as well when we get there. I'm sure if he did eat, it was a minimal amount, not a meal . Thanks

I think this must happen a lot with multiple cat households. As long as you inform your vet so they'll be aware during the cleaning and administering the anesthesia, they'll probably go ahead with the teeth cleaning.

Oh thank you Marie ! I feel so much better. I was watching so carefully, but you know cats. I will mention it to the vet. I am positive it was not more than an ounce or just a couple licks. He really can't eat that much anyway with his teeth. I just water down the food at this point. I will post later on the outcome. Thank goodness for this forum !

I don't have any experience with this, but like you said, they operate on animals in emergency situations all the time. And it was probably less than an ounce.
