Cat dental surgery coming up—what made recovery smoother for your cats?

Teenie’s estimate is $1,875–$2,982 (anesthesia time/extractions). She’s struggling to eat solid food. We’ve exhausted savings and most of CareCredit on initial vet visits. Any recovery tips you’d recommend? (Pain med timing, wet food texture, activity restrictions?)
If it’s okay per forum rules, I can add our fundraiser link in a follow-up; otherwise I’ll keep it advice-only. Thank you!

My beloved late dog had some serious dental surgery at one point, because there was an abnormal bone growth. That cost $2,000. Dental care is expensive, for sure.

I fed him warm soft food for several days, and limited his activity to more moderate walks than usual. But he was a trooper and as soon as he got home he told me he was just fine, thanks, just fine! Of course, I still took special care of him during his recovery. As for the pain meds I just followed the vet's prescription.

Your cat will most likely be the same, since cats tend to be very stoic. Soft, warmed-up canned food, lots of nice talk and pets if she likes that kind of thing, and no heavy playtime for the first several days. It's amazing how rapidly they recover, and I think it's because they just take each day as it comes and do not worry about it.

One of my cats needed to have two teeth extracted because she had an extra molar - they were crowding each other and inflaming her gums. The cost was around $900 including anesthesia and antibiotics.

The cost you state seems high, but then again, I don't know how involved your case is or what region you live in. I'm in Massachusetts.

did you kitty already have her surgery? I just had a cat who had all but his top back molars removed. Honestly, recovery has been smooth. He's eating pate cat food just fine, and his behavior has completely turned around (we'd been having aggression problems). Our cost estimate was the same. I kept him on kennel rest while he was still on narcotics the first 3 days, but since then he's been out and about and at hte 1 week mark his behavior has returned to his playful self.
