cat has "big" skin

Our cat is/was overweight but last a bit of weight over the past few months. However it still seems like his skin is very "big", ie it kinda droops and sags since it's too big for his body.

I'm sure this is normal since he lost weight, but is it just going to go away over time? Is there anything we can do to help?

I would be more concerned with why he has lost weight. A cat who loses weight so quickly that his skin is loose may be in serious trouble. It is very dangerous for a cat to lose weight that quickly, especially a cat who is overweight. Liver damage is very common when that happens.

Please take you cat to the vet for blood work and a medical evaluation.

Something is wrong.

I think the OP has been TRYING to get their cat to lose weight, no need for panic.

My girls are all small, but they have that saggy skin, it's normal, but I can't remember what it's called, but it allows cats to move and stretch and be flexible.

Even if they have been trying to help the cat reduce, a cat should not lose so much weight so quickly that his skin sags. It should be a very gradual process, and the skin will have time to develop the proper elasticity.

Of course if they are talking about the loose flap of skin under the belly that is normal for most cats, that is a different issue, but they did not say that.

If you'd read their other posts, you'd see it was gradual and on purpose.

I call it their 'udders'. :luv

I did not see the other thread. I was responding to the only details posted in this one. :)

Anyway, the information I posted is is accurate and on topic. Whether a cat is on a weight loss program or not, a cat should not lose weight too quickly. 2 or 3 ounces a week is safe. And unexplained weight-loss should be investigated.
