Winnie often licks the vinyl chair cushions repeatedly. Either she thinks they need cleaning or she really likes the taste.

I've also caught her washing the leather couch and today she scrubbed a stripe from a page of my day planner.

If she finds a photograph she'll wash that, too.

Normally I don't worry about it but the sound is annoying.

Why does she do this? Does she like the taste? The texture? Is there some kind of chemical smell she enjoys? Is there a chance she'll injest something harmful (developer chemicals, mold-release agents)?

Cats are attracted to the chemical INK on photographs and plastic bags and such. My husband is a photographer so you can imagine the photos we have laying around. We keep our cat out of the room because I'm pretty sure most of that ink isn't good for them if they are licking constantly.

I know you can't really stop him from doing it, but maybe if you found a way to distract him or put away the stuff that he is licking. Not that I think you should put your couch away.

I just would worry about the exposure to the chemicals, even though she probably isn't really ingesting that much. I'm just a worrier so prevention is key in my home.

I think it has more to do with the smell of INK vs taste. I was just told that the chemicals on photos printed in our studio and at the store aren't harmful to animals. I still don't let my kitty lick them.

Not sure what the chemical name is that is used at most developing stores, but they are rinsed so they supposably don't pose any health risk.
