Hi All,
I am here desperate and heartbroken and hoping someone can help me. My Male cat, is 13 years old and about 3 months ago became pickier and pickier. A month ago, he stopped eating at all. He is down to 7.5 lbs and even with an appetite stimulant, continues to lose weight. He has had all his "regular" tests done as well as a GI panel and everything came back crystal clean! ( i can post the results here too if that will help anyone!!) On Wednesday we are going for an ultrasound to hopefully get some answers, but I just have no idea what is going on with him, and neither do the two vets we have seen through this. I am hoping that the ultra sound will at least show us SOMETHING but am worried that it wont. has anyone been through something similar and have any suggestions on what I can ask, where i should go or what I should be looking for?

I would do anything for this cat & am feeling awfully dismayed about what I can do for him.

Well I guess you need to see what the ultrasound shows. The only other thing I can offer is to google vet research hospitals or colleges. Maybe someone could review the tests. And if the vets are in the same practice maybe you need another opinion from another practice. I hope the ultrasound helps you. If it can be narrowed down, then a vet specialists may help.

Sorry to hear of your boy's rapid decline.....how you describe the weight loss in a short amount of time was what happened to my beloved "Alkee", but the tests did give a diagnosis of diabetes. Even with injections of insulin, she rallied briefly but then continued to deteriorate and died. I still miss her. Not knowing what is wrong with your boy tho is even worse, and hope that the U/S will give you and the vets some answers. Prayers coming your way.

Are there any other symptoms? Increased appetite and urination ? Has Hyperthyroidism been ruled out (T4)? Anything happen that can correspond to when this started? Not knowing is tough and I wish you both well.

Hi Chloe,
I recently went through something like this with one of my cats...
Mr. Jazz started losing weight rapidly, wasn't wanting to eat, and was having problems trying to poo...I pushed the vet to do an x-ray, after I felt something in his abdomen, my boy had a fast moving, aggressive tumour, cutting off his intestine...
Mr. Jazz was around 10+ years old...he'd been a stray that adopted us.
I hope you have some good news with your boy...
HUGS...

Sharon
