You could locate the areas with urine by using a black light, and clean those areas with a special cleaner that removes cat odor, one with enzymes. Also, there is a product called Nilodor which you can use to eliminate odor. It is available in an automatic aerosol system or in drops. You can probably call a drugstore or use this link for the automatic system:

I agree with Dr. Jean. You obviously care about Skitz, and we know that he won't live as long (3-5 years instead of 12 to 16 years) if he is free to roam. A play yard would be a great solution! :) Of course, the mortality age is an average. There are exceptions, but I would really worry if he left for 12 days. Someone must have taken him in, or he got lost. Either way, it's frightening. :(
