After reading a bunch of "peeing kitty" posts, I felt I needed to post my own. Our cat, Skitz, has always been a great cat -as a kitten, he learned to go in his litterbox almost instantly back in our old apartment. He only pooped once in his favorite plant. Then we moved to a new house -we weren't sure what to expect because the previous owner had 2 cats, but needless to say, he still kept his 1's and 2's in his litter box.

A couple years later, we moved from Denver to Colorado Springs (about 60 miles away) to a house that had dogs, and maybe a cat previously. This is where and when his peeing started...

In this new house there was a loose panel under an overhang on the roof where a neighborhood cat used to get into the attic and stay warm in the winter. We sealed that off, but the big gray cat would still hang around outside the house. So we weren't sure if the previous pets' smells tempted Skitz to start peeing in the dining room or if it was the big gay cat intimidating him, making him feel he had to mark his territory.

Our main problem is that we're moving in a couple weeks to a house that has never had pets in it. It will defenitely be the nicest house we've ever been in and obviously we don't want Mr. PeePee Skitz to soil the new-ish carpet there.

Any thoughts? Suggestions? :?: ==>

Woops, must have been subliminal with the 'gay' cat instead of gray cat. :p :lol:

About the Fellway stuff... what is it? It calms them how? I haven't seen that cat lately, but since we're actually moving next door, he might still feel threatened... I'll read up on Fellway.

Thanks! :D

I think I'll be trying both -this new house is in way too good of shape to have it soiled by the smell we have in this house. ))))

Since it mimics their relax/no-threat pheremones, does it make any difference to them if it gets sprayed in the room containing their box? I'm thinking of spraying it in all the rooms before we bring him over so hopefully he'll be instantly relaxed, like a first-impression type of thing. Maybe he'll think, "hey, this is nice, I feel like chiiiil-lin!!"

thanks again -I'll keep you posted. :wink:

Well, we've been in the new house since August. Skitz peed a few times here and there. The Feliway didn't work -we thought it was, but he peed anyway. Alas, one day we opened the door to let our pug outside so she could 'drop the kids off in the park' and Skitz went flying out the door after her, meowing like a crazy kitty on his way out! We didn't see him for 12 days!!! It got scary, and we kind of got the feeling he was mad or frustrated and needed out because we never let him out in the yard unless we were watching him.

Well, thank God he came back and ever since, we let him go outside whenever he wants. He's so much happier and more lovey than we've ever seen him! It's like he got his frustrations out and is living his wild life as Skitz: secret agent or neighborhood pimp, the way he struts around in our yard ...and he hasn't peed in the house since!

I understand there's always the what-if of outside, but he only wanders about 2 houses up and down the street from us -and he loves to hide under our backyard deck. 70-80% of the time he's inside with us, but if he wants out, he starts banging on cupboard doors or knocking things off of shelves to let us know and we let him out. It's amazing how much happier he seems -and he was a friendly kitty before this, just a bit frustrated!

Now he's the great Skitz of the Colorado Serenghetti! :!:
