On Friday, I was picking a mat out of my cat's neck ruff, when he decided he had enough and pulled away. I was still holding on and he let out a MROW! Later I discovered that he had a flap of skin hanging! There was no blood, but I could see his flesh. If you've ever seen a rabbit skinned you'll know what I'm talking about. I don't understand how this happened, but there you go. He didn't seem to be in any pain; he wasn't hiding or not wanting his neck touched.
Anyway, I took him to the vet the next morning, and they stitched him up. He seemed back to his old self instantly. But then, Saturday evening, I looked at his stitches, and one had opened!
It looked like this

Okay, that doesn't look good, but it's just one stitch, right?
Well apparently they started to itch, and Mao rubbed his neck up against the corner of a cabinet, and ripped out the rest.

Ouch! The vet isn't open until tomorrow, but can anyone tell me what I should do until then?

Ooh my Goodness, Bertie!
Do you have someone else who can help you hold him?
If so, I would suggest trimming some more hair all around the area...
Do you have any long gause, first aid type?
Non stick big bandaid, like they make for elbows and knees?
Once hair is trimmed, put non stick bandaid on, then wrap with gause,
NOT tight!
You don't want to choke Mao!
It does need to be protected
somehow...
You don't want him doing more damage to himself!
That might get you thru the night...

I REALLY hope someone else has some ideas for you!

Is there any kind of 24 hour animal hospital/emergency anywhere near where you are? If so I would take him there to get it sorted. If you have that option better to be safe. Other than that I'm not too sure what else to suggest other than keeping it clean/what 10cats suggested.

Bertie, a clean bandana would work just fine!

There isn't an e-vet where I live. :( I can take him at 8 am when they open. I put the bandage on him but he wiggled out of it. I'm going to see if I can use something else to make a sort of halter top that he can't get out of. If this doesn't work I'll stay up with him to make sure he doesn't get into any more trouble.

Bertie, One more crazy idea...
Do you have any old tube socks?
Maybe you could cut the foot part off, and get that over his head to protect his neck wound...

Bertie,
Glad to hear You both survived the night!
Did you get any sleep?!
Keep an eye out for the cone rubbing the wound area...
If it does, maybe back to the "Sock"!
Hope Mao heals quickly!

Bertie, I'm glad Mao was seen by the vet too! Lol, kitties sure give us a good scare, don't they? And almost always at the most inopportune time! Healing wishes sent for him.

10cats, you're a genius, thinking of tube socks! Lol. :D :thumb
