My 11 month old cat just had kittens just about 3 days ago. She seems like a pretty good Mom cat but never having had a cat who had kittens I am not sure what to expect from her. I am concerned that she frequently leaves the kittens and comes out to another room to "hang out". This morning she seems a bit more restless than the paswt couple of days. Her eyes are wide and she doesn't seem to know what she wants. I actually think she really wants to go out but obviously we can't let her.
I'm concerned that the kittens will get cold when she leaves them or that they won't get eniough to eat. Should I be worrying or is this all AOK?

Of course the mother cat is going to have a few breaks from her babies, but these breaks shouldn't be hours and hours on end. As long as the mother cat is still feeding the kittens, I wouldn't worry too much. Where are the kittens? Are they somewhere that might stress the mother cat? As long as the kittens are in a warm room without drafts then the kittens shouldn't get cold.

Yeah it's norm for the new mom to have breaks but like Lexxie said it shouldn't be for too long. If it is too long I suggest enclosing her with her kittens for a week or two. You can let her out for a half and hour here and there throughout the day. I suggest a room that isn't used frequently or a large closet.
