i took my 3 1/2 year old cat to the vet with a skin problem,they run some tests and found he was allergic to his own spit any one come across the before?
he skin is sore and as you know cats like to groom and this is making things so much worse.
any advice would be gratefully recived many thanks in advance.

Just checking the first page of sites, I discovered that most people are allergic to cat saliva, because it contains all the proteins from their dander, etc. I did not see a site about cats being allergic to their OWN saliva, but there were hundreds more sites. I have not heard of this before. I'm sorry. If I have time I'll do some more hunting later.

Most of the cat bites and scratches I get swell up some, i must be allergic to that. But a cat that's essentially allergic to it's own self is a new one to me.

On a slightly related note, Punky was having some serious coughing/sneezing problems a few months ago... when I took her to the vet they determined she's allergic to dusts/pollens et cetera. I'm not allergic to that stuff, but she is. D'oh :p
