I assume this belongs here.... At any rate, things are going down hill on an extreme slope with the bf and I. It might be time we went our separate ways. Being a student at the moment I will most likely end up back at my parents ( at least temporarily). My mom has allergies, but the kitties come with me. Period. theres no question there. Ive read a lot about keeping cats and people with allergies separate. What I am wondering is this. The upstairs of my parents house is where my room would be. Would it work to just keep the cats confined up there? They would have the run of 4 rooms and a bathroom ( the area is bigger than my apartment actually) and lots of windows and hidy holes. If i kept them up there, and kept everything tidy and clean do you think it would go ok? Ive read that this often works for people with allergies co-existing with animals. Since the upstairs is so large they wouldn't be too confined, I just wonder about the allergies. Opinions?

I think it depends on just how bad your mother's allergy is. It sounds like you have plenty of space for them, I assume your mother sleeps downstairs?

Regular vacuuming, wiping them down to get the dander off regularly, get a couple good air filters will go a long way towards helping keep the dander down. If your mother is willing to take medication that could also help a lot. I have mild allergies and take a generic Claritan every day...works for me.

I only have one allergy and it is an anaphylactic allergy to latex....so I know nothing about air filters and the like. If any one has suggestions for those, Ill take those too. Also, my mom takes allergy medicine daily. We live in the south and there are a lot of plants that are an allergy sufferer's nightmare.
