Every summer our 12-year old cat gets scabs on the outside of her ears... these tend to go away as fall wanes and then come back as the weather warms up. She doesn't have fleas, she is indoor / outdoor.

Flystrike is very common in the summer. Flies especially like to bite around the top and edges of the ears. You may want to talk to your vet about a cat-safe repellent for next summer.

The MYSTERY of it...

She doesn't have light colored ears... and we NEVER see flys near her... it's such a mystery??? She can't do anything about it, and is always begging us to scratch her ears...
