I took in my kitten to get spayed. The Mother of this kitten stayed at our house and when we brought home her kitten after the operation, the mother kept attacking and hissing at her. The Vet said that they put some special spray on the wound and that the smell may make them irritable towards each other but this is ridiculous. It is a warzone in our apartment. Is this weird? How do I make it stop because it is getting really annoying, any help would be much appreciated.

The vet smell will definitely upset the cat who didn't go. Separate them is they are actually fighting, and then try something to mask they smell. You can try rubbing the kitten with a blanket the mother uses, or spray her (away from the wound) with a grooming spray or even try placing some vanilla extract on both cats. The vanilla is supposed to be a very powerful scent, and it makes the cats smell the same. Good luck!

thanks

Hi Rayona,
Thank you for the info. The vanilla thing seems to be working although the mother cat (the cat who stayed home) has seemed to hold a grudge for a little longer than I would have liked, its been 4 days and finally the cats seem to be progressing back to the way they were, it wasn't fun though before today, thats for sure.
Thanks again,
Brent
