When cats urinate to mark their territory, (say in the garden), how long does the scent remain detectable by neighbouring cats? Weird question but i'd like to know...

Cats have a much stronger sense of smell than we humans, close to a dog's sense of smell I've read, but I do know that tomcat spray lasts a long time if sprayed on something like an unpainted wood door that is sheltered from rain.....maybe 8 mos. or more that I can smell. I can remember trying to get tomcat spray off a wood door and using all sorts of cleaners, and still my cats could smell it and do the flehmen response....that dopey open-mouth look with half-closed eyes. I'm guessing but it would depend on what was sprayed---whether it was bare wood that urine could soak into or painted or a metal door, where it is and how much rain you get, and whether it was a female or spay/neuter.
