Just wondering if anyone out there normally gets a live Christmas tree instead of using a fake one --and if you do let me know what kind you get. Just wanting some advice as far as whether your cat tries to chew on it or not. I found out that pine trees are pretty safe and possibly a spruce or a balsam(there is some conflicting reports on those). I found no information saying that Douglas firs were toxic or safe, so who knows about them. I have a five year-old domestic short hair, and he chews on my previous fake tree, so I'm figuring he will try with a real one.

I always have a real tree, naneen, and have had no problems with the cats chewing on it. I am very careful with the icycles, however. The biggest problem I ever had was the first year I got married. I had two kittens, the first that were really mine (not my parents), and they climbed the tree and knocked off all the ornaments! None of my cats has done that since. They like to lie down in the miniature village. I think it's warm and cozy there!
