Hi All -- I brought my almost 6 month old Siberian forest cat for pre-op blood work for his neuter/microchip surgery next Friday last night and they couldn't draw blood. They tried 4 times... even shaved his neck a little - poor fella! They gave me the option to do it while he is mildly sedated right before the surgery -- isn't that the purpose of the whole test?
Is it even worth it then? Is it common not to be able to draw blood?

That's odd. Did they try the rear leg vein? Usually they can get it from somewhere.

It's actually less likely that they can get it when he's sedated--heartrate is slowed by sedation so less blood flow.

Did you ask why they had so much trouble?

They told me they like to save the leg vein for the surgery which is next week.
They said they couldn't get the vein... maybe he hadn't had water recently or food.
