Nope, the animal bones and gizzards do it for me every day . And so you know, since feeding raw my cats have been back for 2 vet visits and their teeth are in perfect condition.
Ritz had gingivitus, she had to have a dental cleaning a year ago, at the ripe old age of two. Fast forward a year, wellness checkup, no gingivitus. I attribute her great teeth to her chewing meat and especially bone.
And, no, I don't brush her teeth.
My elderly kitty was about 13 when we started switching to raw and his teeth were AWFUL. "Overdo for a cleaning" said the vet. He'd never gotten one previously.
Now at 17, the vet says his teeth look like they belong to a cat half his age (actually that was last year, might be better now!) and he doens't see him needing a dental ever.
our kitties haven't quite gotten the hang of bones or gizzards yet, but they love their meaty chunks. i occasionally try to brush their teeth but usually cant get past getting a couple of their teeth brushed lol O_O
Although not totally related, Rocky the dog switched to a full raw diet from kibble about 2 years ago at age 5. He had bad tartar on the teeth before the switch and I brush on occasion. He's fed beef or chicken chunks, bone-in quail, chicken hearts.
However, I did not see any noticable difference with his teeth except for the first while. When he first switched, the tartar started to receed from the tips of the teeth. Then it stopped. He still has tartar near the gums and also heavily on his front teeth. I'm surmising dental condition is has strong ties with genetics.
I feed these: chicken backs. (Both Dutch and English are on the pdf.) They have a nice chunk of muscle meat on the back as well as those perfectly awesome rib bones that clean their teeth. My cats have PERFECT teeth and the absolutely love eating them.
