They can certainly be amused by play and playing tricks, like my Nibs who liked to jump on a sleeping cat and just keep walking! It might not be a sense of humor as we know it, but she did it consistently, so she must have thought the results would be great. She never looked back. I don't think their sense of humor is exactly like ours however. :)

I believe that cats do have a sence of humor, it is usually disclosed when they are playing. Their quick moves and alertness while playing with a favorite toy is proof enough for me. This probably accounts for kittens being so playful. Some cats do not "grow up", but remain kittens for at least 2 years of age. I have one cat who is continually playing with some toy and who is about 2 years of age (Chrissy). Chrissy is a traditional marble-swirl brown tabby with white underneath.

I defanetley think they have a sense of humor...I cant tell you how many times I have walked through my kitchen and had my head batted by a silly paw! Or walked past my bed and had my ankle attacked by some funny kitty! They have to do thease things for their own amusement!

I don't think cats will do something and actually laugh, but I know that cats have moods and personalities. My kitty makes faces at me...I can tell by how his ears are positioned and how his eyes look. When he gets in trouble, he makes an angry look. I can't really explain the look, but I can tell. Right now he is staying with my friend, and every time I visit he looks soooo happy to see me! And when I leave, my friend says he cries.
Cats definately do things to humour themselves! My kitty likes to watch the toilet when I flush it! Lol

I agree - I think cats can humor themselves, but don't necessarily have a humor as we define it. Cat's play and have fun, and play tricks on animals/people/other cats. But I doubt they find things "funny", or humourous to look at.

Their fun is more derived from their actions and interactions with other animals, but not by watching them.

That's what I think anyway.

Moby does that too, but since he's declawed he bites now. And his biting is harder than he thinks - he's almost ripped both legs off my flannels.

It's true though! His teeth get snagged in the cloth where as claws would just sorta cling there. But I'd much prefer bite marks (not that it happens a lot - usually just the cloth) than needle like claw marks.

Not that I'm pro-declawing.

That's pretty funny!!

My kitty likes to play cat and mouse with my boyfriend. My kitty will run up to my bf, and stop about 2-3 feet away, then my bf will chase my kitty. My kitty hides, and as my bf walks away, my kitty runs up to him again! They repeat this pretty much until my bf gets tired of chasing him! LOL
It's pretty funny especially when I get involved! Then my cat has two people trying to chase him.
(I recommend this game if your cat keeps you up at night..this tires them out fast!)
