I have a bit of a problem cat. She's almost two years old and for the last few months she's been scratching small sores right in front of her ears. Not in her ears, but in front where the hair is really thin. They wont go away, and she won't leave them alone. I've been cleaning her ears regularly. Just today I noticed that her one ear is quite dirty and has some sores inside. Are these ear mites? Is there any way to treat it without going to the vet? Im a student and need to save money, although I realize that if there's no home remedy I will take her in.

Also, she wont stop biting and licking in between her toes on her hind paws. Its always between her two middle toes. She licks them raw. How can I stop her from doing this?
I appreciate any help!

Otis had very similar symptoms, and it was diagnosed as allergies. It was a long process of trial and error to figure out what meat protein he was allergic to, however, so I probably wouldn't start it until the vet had ruled out other things...
