I read an article in National Geographic about mummified cats. I think this finding could shed some light on how much the breeds have changed-and stayed the same- since man 1st domesticated them. Some pharoahs had whole stellea dedicated to 1 cat! And the mummification process was basically the same as with humans!

Fascinating isn't it? I thought I saw on TV that sometimes the leaders loved their cats so much that when they passed, the cat would also be sacrificed and mummified to join their owner on the other side. :? That may be wrong, but I think I remembered correctly =/.

I'm actually studying to be an Egyptologist, and I can confirm that SweetyAnna is absolutely right: pharaohs and other high-status political leaders would often have their cats killed and mummified to be entombed along with them. The ancient Egyptians believed that this life is simply a test for what comes next: eternal life. Thus, in killing the cat, they believed that they were actually releasing it to its true eternal life with its owner.
