Hi Everyone,

I have a fading kitten two days old, stray mom in cold garage, I have a heater in there. I have warmed kitten and given Karo. Kitten is a little more responsive, grunting and crying when bothered. I have a million questions but the first is, do I try to feed him KRF if warm and a little responsive or just stick with Karo. I read somewhere Karo every three minutes for crisis and I did that. He's still in huge danger but I worry about dehydration with no fluid. Any and all help appreciated! TY,

Oh my goodness, just seeing this now. How is the kitten doing? I hope someone with some experience will be along to offer some advice!

From what you've said, I assume the kitten is not nursing from it momacat? Most kittens with FKS=Fading Kitten Syndrome stop nursing a few days after being born, then stop nursing altogether and usually you find them in a corner of their kitten box away from their kitty sibs and feeling cold. They will continue to crawl away from the mother even if you keep returning kitty to her, and then in a day or two they die. It's sad and am not sure why this happens....perhaps some defect in their digestive system or brain or a cleft palate? The fact that the kitty crawls away to be alone is nature's way of keeping the momacat and her live kittens safe and clean so their nest isn't fouled. So the dilemma is whether to try and keep feeding this kitty. I wouldn't think Karo (corn syrup is it?) would not be nutritious at all and KRF would be better.....you can try to keep kitty going, but don't be too upset if it doesn't survive. It could be it's just not meant to live. Sorry to hear you're having to deal with this FKS kitty....it really sucks!

Catloverami, summed it up pretty well, this IS one of the hardest things we go through, when trying to save a very young kitten...
I had three feral mama cats that all had kittens, there was one kitten that couldn't be saved from one of the mama's...it broke my heart...

I did get all mama's TNR'd, kittens socialized, and kittens all found homes!
But...I still wish...I could have somehow, saved the one...
Hugs and prayers...

Sharon
