Sure, probably some of us have done this.
As for being worth the cost.....
It will vary widely depending on where you are, what qualifications the behaviorist has, what is suggested, and so on. And even the most qualified person may or may not have success with your particular cat. Be aware that anyone can call him or herself a cat behaviorist since it is not regulated. So if you hire one, check the references and the reviews carefully for that person.
