Hi!
Just searching internet for any discussions on kinda adopting a stray cat.
we’ve had a kitty for the last year we’ve been feeding, last year we built him a fort on out back porch to stay warm.
The past few weeks, he has been coming in our house. No fleas but he’s so skinny (last couple of months) his breath is horrendous all of a sudden. He’s the most cuddly cat ever and you can tell he must have had some trauma...he just started purring and he just wants to be held. He opens his mouth to meow but nothing comes out ans he sneezes constantly. Idk if I’m in over my head but we are attached. I’m afraid he might have a lot of medical issues...do animal shelters or hospitals help you to get a cat off the street? As far as fixing him and giving him a check up to make sure it’s safe for us to take him? Any help would be appreciated!!! Thanks in advance.

You should call around, because some vets may give you a break since you're taking in a stray cat. Your biggest expense may be dental (bad breath usually indicates some sort of tooth issue, but it could be something else, like a stomach issue, etc.).

Some cities have Second Chance Animal Shelters which offer low-cost spay/neuter services, AND low-cost dental services. There's also Finney's Friends in some cities, they offer pet medical assistance.

Good luck, it's great that you're helping this little guy out.
