Saw 13 hours. Great movie! Hard to describe without spoilers...

It's based on a true story, basically a group of soldiers guarding a base find themselves in a Fouled Up Beyond All Recognition sitch and fight against overwhelming odds.

Star Wars The Force Awakens

I caught Episode 7 last night! :thumb JJ Abrams has gone back to the old Star Wars formula, and it works!

Episode 7 was brilliant! I was fortunate enough to catch it in theaters twice. My friends surprised me with tickets on opening night - it was completely unexpected and one of the best things ever! I caught it in 3D a week later. Excellent movie.

I've been rewatching some of my favorite director's films lately. I'm really fond of Paul Thomas Anderson and Martin Scorsese's work. My personal favorite PTA film is Inherent Vice - think Big Lebowski but trippier and with a stoned Joaquin Phoenix as the lead. It's sublime. I've seen it so many times but it never fails to bring a smile to my face. Watched it the other night. As for Scorsese, I've recently rewatched three films many consider a thematic trilogy, Goodfellas, Casino, and Wolf of Wall Street. All of three are incredible, among my favorite movies. Casino in particular is unappreciated, especially critically, which always blows my mind - in my opinion, it's a better film than Goodfellas. Wolf of Wall Street was too lewd for many, which I can appreciate to some extent. Regardless, I consider it a late career masterpiece for Scorsese - on par with his best, which is the highest praise I can offer. It's a manic, adrenaline-fueled masterpiece of cinema. Its three hour running time feels like an hour and a half. I cannot praise it enough. I also (without having seen the Revenant) think it's DiCaprio's best and most compelling work by far. If you're not easily offended I highly recommend giving it a watch :thumb

Speaking of directors, Tarantino's Hateful 8 is supposed to be bloody, graphically funny violent, tense, and shocking!

Maybe I'll just go see Kung Fu Panda!

Seriously, is it true that this is his last film?

It's not a new film, but I watched Susie's Hope tonight and I thought it was great! If you look past the creepy animatronic puppy used in few a few scenes early on, the message and TRUE STORY are great.

I might have just been hormonal but I sniffled all over MowMow through a fair amount of it.

Just watched the trailer for Susie's Hope. Looks good, but hard to watch. It looks like it takes place in the south. Louisiana, maybe?

Blofeld's cat

We rented Spectre last night and were a little disappointed that Blofeld's cat didn't get a better part. It was barely a walk-on (hop-on?) and he didn't even get any lines to speak. They didn't even mention him in the credits!
I think this cat needs a better agent.

Tomorrow's Valentines Day! Does anyone know any good romance movies? Typically, I don't do that genre, but there are 'guy' movies with strong romances.

You're right Nuliajak, he should get at LEAST 3 closeups!

Kurt,
If you haven't seen 'Quigley Down Under' with Tom Selleck, I'd recommend that one! Great story, lots of adventure, and a Love story!;)

Sports movie fans! The next 'must see' is out. Race tells the story of Jesse Owens. Jesse Owens was the grandson of slaves, and went to the Berlin Olympics. He considered boycotting the games, held in Nazi Germany, but decided a much BETTER statement would be to go over there race against the 'master race' and... you'll have to see the movie. Another great movie that deals with running-Mcfarland U.S.A.!

btw, Jesse Owens once ran the track at Chaney, my old high school. :)
