Hi!

Two questions...
1) Our kitten always eats the food of the older cat, and vice versa. Is this a problem? It's the same brand of food, but the kitten gets kitten-food, of course.

2) They have seperate litter boxes. The kitten's box is in her own room, where she spends most of her time because they still don't manage to be in the same room without "fighting". When the kitten is running around the house, she uses the other cat's litter box. After that, the other cat seems to not use it anymore. I cleaned it out now, and she immediately used it again. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks! :)

Tom.

Congatulations on your new baby :D ! It seems to me that your cats are going through the usual adjustment phase, it will take a little time for them to co-habitate happily. Your older cat is used to living solo and should get used to your kitten. It's o.k. that they eat each others food, they're trading scents, and the grass might be greener in someone else's bowl  A tip to get them to enjoy each other's company, get them togetherin the same room and douse them both with treats and affection. They'll learn to associate each other with treats. good luck to you and your kitties.

You can try adding another litter box into the mix to see if this helps.

As far as the food goes, depending on what brand your feeding, it might not be the best idea to allow the kitten to eat the other food.

Feed them seperately, feed the adult 2x a day in their own room behind a closed door, and feed the kitten 2-3x a day (depending on it's age) behind a closed door as well. Which means, no leaving food down 24/7.

How can I tell if it's bad that the kitten eats the other food? The brand is 'friskies', I don't know if they have that over there? The older cat is used to have food available at all times. She always eats in small portions, lots of times each day...
