My husband and and I have three cats. Two girls, age about 16 years and one girl about 3 years old. We love our fur babies and have some questions that we need help with. For instance, one of our 16 year old cats may have Sundowner's Disease. She's a korat. She still grooms herself and has a healthy appetite. But at night, and this has been going on for a few months in the late night and early hours, she will meow in the kitchen. We have wet and dry food out, as well as water. Much of the time we also have to turn on the kitchen faucet for her to drink. Much of the time she will do so, and much of the time she will not. We've also opened cans of food for her. Sometimes she will eat, and other times not. Also, we give our three cats Friskies canned food, as well as Fancy Feast canned food, as well as some other expensive canned foods when they go on sale. Much of the time they will waste much of this food, which is very frustrating. Any ideas, anyone? Right now, the big problem is our older cat, who keeps us up at night. Thank you.

With your older 16 y.o. cat, sometimes hearing loss leads to a lot of meowing....have you checked her hearing by making a noise behind her that she can see? Another thing is that older cats can develop dementia, which can be expressed by going into a room and meowing loudly.....it's as if they've forgotten the way to get out, and they'll stop if they see you and you speak to them to come. So this could be a source of her meowing in the kitchen at night etc. There also may be other physical problems starting to arise.
Here's a link that may be helpful for to you to figure out what's going on with your old girl.
