Since my cats are now only fed wet food I've noticed something strange about Stix.

When I feed him one of those cat foods that come in slices/chunks or anything that has a fair amount of "gravy" or "juice", he will lick his food until there is NO MORE gravy/juice left. Then he will go do something else. Then about 5 minutes later he will come back and eat the juiceless chunks like it's going out of style. Weird-o?

Anyone else's cat do this? Or something weird when they eat?

My cats used to do that when I fed them Friskies canned, except they would lick all the gravy and never eat the rest. I don't blame them now that I know what is in it.
What food are you feeding right now? Does it come in different flavours? I think my cats would probably do the same thing a Stix if their food was in gravy.

Well he is on Felidae rice/chicken, but that particular food was Nutro Hunter's Venison-something or other. My new case of Felidae has not come in yet so I bought a few cans of Nutro to tide him over. BUT, even though Felidae is kind of pate'-ish, he will still lick that to death too! It's not very juicy, so he eats it right away after licking. And boy is he messy! You would think I asked him to paint my floor with the stuff.

Tyson & Tyra do that too -- they eat all the gravy first, then go for the chunks. When they're done with their first sitting, Tyson usually comes back to eat Tyra's share... I try to put hers away for a bit until she feels like munching again. She won't usually go for the dried up chunks though -- so I add some warm water to mimic the gravy and she'll eat it all. :)

I just got them a can of cat food today though (they usually get Nutro pouches, today I decided to try canned Nutro MaxCat), and neither of them went for the pastey mixture. I guess I'll donate the rest that I bought to the Homeless Cat Network that has a bin in the pet store. I wonder if it's b/c it was the turkey flavor -- so far, they only seem to really like the fishy varieties.

Yea, my cats are sometimes weird at easter. then again i guess thats because they dont like chocolate, no matter how much i feed them they only ever pick at it. My sister however is allergic to chocolate which i guess is a coincidence because here name is Kat (weird like that eh?).
Anyway, can someone tell me how to get my cat to eat chocolate, im getting worried???????

Stephen does the same thing - laps up the gravy and comes back later for the rest.

I've wondered how to make a similar gravy for her since she seems to like it so much, but no ideas... I don't want to make something very unhealthy.

Ah, I love trolls.

My cats won't eat canned if I don't mash it up and spread it around the plate. They won't take bites, only lick. Silly geese.

I bet if you bought some chicken legs and boiled them for a long time it would make a semi-solid gravy. The same technique works for beef bones like neck and knuckle. The gelatin in the bones cooks out in the water and makes a great stock called glace de viande. Yum for people and pets!

I feed them with Nutro pouches too and I'm thinking to try MaxCat. You are saying your kitties wouldn't eat MaxCat? Hmmm....I'm little worried about my kittes because they are used with pouches and they love them. I will probably try MaxCat in few weeks.

Kayla does that too when I feed the Nutro Natural Choice pouches! I have to put her plate away so that the other piggies won't get to them before she comes back the 2nd time to eat the chunks.

When I have time to mash everything up with a fork, she'll eat everything at one sitting.

Hahahha, hey, at least it made me smile!

Okay folks... I was on a little hiatus for a while due to being a graduate student in evil, I mean physics, so... can someone point me in the direction of the wet vs. dry food debate? Thank you kindly my fine, furry, friends.

Have a great weekend!
