I've finally got back my holiday photos from Kefalonia. I thought you might like to see pictures of some of the feral cats I saw.

This is a little calico I befriended whilst on holiday. I named her 'Meli' - Greek for honey - because she was so sweet! Most of the feral cats were wary of humans but Meli was incredibly friendly and talkative.

Here are a couple of the many feral cats who beg outside the restaurants in Skala.

She's really cute! It looks like she might have some Siamese in her!!!! Her eyes are HUGE!
I noticed that all of the cats there seemed to have that 'Siamese build'. Also, many of them had blue eyes. So who knows?

I'll bet you found it difficult to leave Meli behind. Once we name them, we're usually hooked for life. This brings the predicament of strays and ferals home to our hearts, doesn't it?--especially in Greece.
You're right. I felt sad for all of the cats there - I think they'd be lucky if they survived the winter. A few years ago I went to Menorca and it was the same situation there - hungry feral cats everywhere. It's a big problem but I heard of a solution that is already being put into action in some Meditteranean countries: Cat Cafes. The cats are caught, neutered, then released, but the charity continues to feed them. The feeding area is well away from hotels and restaurants. I think that is a very good idea if we are to stop the poor cats from starving.
