Not just Hartz...

I haven't read all the posts, and this one may get lost... but I thought I'd share anyway.

It's not just name brands that can be bad (or good). But the dosage you give! I was watching Animal Precinct, and they rescued a cat in severe seizures. Found out that the owner bought a package of flea stuff, and just gave it to the cat without reading the label! It was made for dogs between 90-100+ pounds!!!
If you have to use chemicals to rid your pets of bugs, at least make sure you're getting the right one! Plus, always read the directions! (I figure most of us do, but pass this along to more ignorant owners *g*)

My mother used it on her cats. One of them had a reaction. He was in terrible pain. He cried and meowed all night. She thought he was allergic and she bathed him immediately. Fortunately, this helped and he survived it.

We have beed using the flea medicine on our cats for a few months now!

Bio Spot

A brand called Bio Spot can kill cats too. There was an adopter from my prior organization that used that on a cat and it was the cause of death because of some ingrediant that was in the flea control.

I advise to stay away from normal store brands that are in stores like Wal-Mart, Target, Big K, etc and stick with Revolution, Advantage, and Frontline.

Also, dog and cat Advantage is the same stuff! They just sell it differently, but you can use it on either, just pay attention to the dosage with the weight of your cat. They tell vets this, but vets don't tell the public, they do tell rescues.

My parents used Hartz on my cat, she luckily tolerated it, but I told them to stop using it since it has been known to kill dogs and cats...

Unfortunately...they don't believe me, but they haven't bought anymore Hartz stuff in a while, so maybe they are believing me.

revolution

I use Revolution on Gizmo, a cat who has a high sensitivity to meds.

She takes it without any ill effect. The product combats fleas, ticks and heartworm. It is ten dollars per dose at the vet's --a small price to pay for her continued good health.
