I know this is a strange question but since the cat foods like Evolve and Felidae seem to have such high-grade ingredients I was wondering whether any of you had actually tasted them for yourselves! I don't eat meat so I personally wouldn't try cat food.

Taste it? I can barely stand to touch it! I wash my hands after setting Sabby's bowl down. Blech!
LOL. When I look at the ingredients list for the Evolve I seriously think it might be fit for human consumption!  It's probably healthier than a lot of the crap they serve up at McDonalds and White Castle.

Yes, I taste-test anything that I'm going to feed Assumpta. Dry food is usually pretty unpalatable (though not too terribly offensive), and good canned food tastes no worse than crud I've been served on a cracker at fancy parties. The only thing I haven't tasted is the dental chews, and that's because they're so expensive that I don't want to pull one apart to get just a little sample.

Iams "Old" Hairball formula: not bad, very fatty-tasting, mediocre mouth feel.
Hills Science Diet R/D prescription: Disgusting. Tastes and feels like sawdust with spray-on flavoring.
Hill's Science Diet hairball Lite: Eh. Mediocre all the way around, nothing spectacular.
Chicken Soup: Variable from bag to bag, I don't trust their batch quality to be consistent.
Wellness Light: Nice Mouth feel (baked, not extruded), a little grainy in flavor.
Wellness Adult: Same mouth feel as Light, stronger meat flavor.

I am STILL waiting for the feline EVO....

I'm impressed!!

I imagine with the EVO it's going to be like being on the Atkins diet. It might actually taste quite good!

I'm telling on relatives here...When I was younger, a cousin would eat meow mix right from the box! Honest! He said it was good, but I never tried it.

I seem to recall that kid having to go #2 a LOT! ha ha

When I was... maybe 6 or 7 years old I actuarally tasted dry food. As I remember it, it tasted like crunchy bread which probably is a good indication for what the main ingredients in the food was

Today I'd never taste catfood. First of all, I know what's in it  , second: I'm a vegetarian.

No, I've never tried cat food before. (Though I was just trying to convince Jess that dry stuff would be just like Grape Nuts .)

I have tried dog biscuits before.. the plain ones that come bulk. I used to work in a petshop and my manager liked to snack on them when he was desperate for something to eat, so I tried them. They weren't terrible, just tasted chalky and gritty.

Hey Padunk... I like the looks of your one cat ;)

No I haven't eaten cat food... however, now that I am tube feeding Jazzy... at times it squirts all over when I am preparing the food, and I'm sure I have eaten a few flying pieces now and then, LOL!!

I don't eat meat so I don't eat cat food... but I will admit to feeding my little sister cat treats when we were little  (hey the kid used to eat ladybugs she wasn't picky!). Never did sample them myself... in fact I probably fed her the cat treats in trade for her fruit snacks!

I tried a wet food once when I was younger... I dont know which one it was, this was my step-mom's old cat, I was probably about 12 years old. I remember thinking "it smells really meaty, I wonder if it actually tastes that way?" Nope, it tasted kinda rubbery actually :?

I've considered it recently, but havn't been able to do it.

oh geez
........getting up from my chair
....heading towards the kitty food bowl
....thinking this is crazy, but now curious
....Taking a detour to the kitchen to open a soda just incase it is terrible
....Grabbing one tiny kibble out of the bowl
....Sticking it in the mouth...crunch...crunch..crunch!
....Looking for that soda and washing it down.

NOW the cat is on my lap sniffing my mouth!!!

I can't BELIEVE you people made me do that! I ate a Innove Evo kibble and it wasn't that bad. It tasted kind of strong and meaty.

There is NO way I am going to eat the wet canned food, unless timskitties does it first.

OK, I'll bite. Wait, no, it's wet food, I don't have to bite. Just tongue it in. Hmmmm....kind of bland. Little bit chunky. Little bit gritty. Not objectionable, but not really tasty, either. Kind of an after-taste. :?

I think I know why it's hard to get Mellie to eat this stuff -- it doesn't have a strong enough taste.

(Eagle Pack Chicken & Lamb)

Actually, the wet food was better than the dry. 8)

---->timskitties goes to open a beer. And munch on some pretzels. (to cleanse the palate)

Tim , I can't believe you did it. Hope the aftertaste didn't spoil the beer for you. I can't stand the smell of wet food, so I can't imagine tasting it. :dis

Here's a funny cat food story. My daughter was 3 1/2 and we had just gotten our first cat. I gave her the can and a spoon to feed the cat, which she did. Well, she became so transfixed watching the cat eat that her hand, still holding the spoon, moved toward her mouth. Before I could speak the spoon went into her mouth with some food still on it!!! She made a face and then we both laughed so hard!!! Even then, she had a great sense of humor!!!

We still laugh about it years later!!

Bwahahahahahahaha....

You're all coming over to the dark side with me...official cat-food tasters!

(right now, there is great laughter and merriment on The Cat Planet)

As a note, my neighbor uses her teeth to break dog biscuits, and she once found a bad batch that way...some fat had gone rancid in the biscuits...so I guess tasting your pet's food can be beneficial.

Now if anyone starts having a big ol' bowl of kibble during the Sunday Night Movie, I'll worry...

(mental note: Evo not bad, strongly meaty...Eagle Pack canned rather bland with an aftertaste, better with beer and pretzels)

Thanks for the information. I won't feed my cats Hill's food ever again unless I absolutely have to(for prescription). Sounds quite disgusting. So Iams is not so bad tasting. Good thing since they're on the Eukanuba low residue dry diet. The canned rabbit and pea that they eat, I would dare anyone to try that.

I've never been brave enough to try canned food but when I was a kid I tried dry cat food. I think it was Friskies. It was not too bad. Tasted like meat flavored crackers. I remember my mom saying I shoudn't eat cat food because factories can't really control what might accidentally end up in pet food. There might be ground up dead flies in the food. But one could argue that if we're willing to feed it to our pets we should have no problem feeding it to ourselves right?
