I found Cat Forum while doing a search for good cat food recipes. Because of the mad cow disease scare I am very concerned about the quality of cat food that I have been feeding my cats. I feed them a high quality cat food but it still contains by-products, which means basically the leftovers from slaughter houses including the parts that contain the MCD agents. I went to PetCo yesterday to read all the ingredients on the back of the cat food bags and found that all of them contain by-products. :x

How can I protect my kitties from this disease? Athough, it is highly unlikely that they would contract this disease, it still raises the issue of the quality of the food that they have been eating. So I was thinking of making their food myself. That way I could make sure they were eatting good quality meats.

Do you have any good recipes that you make for your kitties? Any advice or recommendations are most welcomed! :D

Thank you in advance!

I guess the foods you were looking at as "high grade" were really just high commercial foods.

A good brand sold at Petco's that does not contain any by-products is called Natural Balance, it's one of the best as far as dry cat kibble goes. As for PetSmart if you ever go there, Blue (Blue Buffalo) is also one of the top best kibbles.

Good luck in your search! :)

Usually Petco and Petsmart don't have the higher premium cat foods except one or two that Angelzoo mentioned but you can find a small local pet store near you that carries mostly all premium cat food without by products. You may have to look it up in your local yellow pages or such. Good Luck :!:
