Hello everyone,
Joined this forum in search of people that have cats that sneeze mucous all over the house. I have cat that has feline herpes and even though I've spend thousands of dollars on treatment I was finally told there's nothing for her. Therefore, I'm hoping there is someone out there that can relate to my situation and help me out with some advice..

Thank you!

Hello spirite,
The kitty in my avatar photo is the kitten I rescued two weeks ago. We are all praying and hoping he doesn't get the feline herpes from the other cat I rescued about 8 months ago. I don't have too much experience with cats as these two are my first. I have four dogs and all four are chihuahuas. The older cat that I rescued is the sick one. She's has been on many steroids and antibiotics. Even human anti herpes pills that the doctor recommended. I've tried soo many things but nothing has worked. I'm willing to go anywhere to see if I can just find her some type of relief. Always congested and yellow and green mucous coming out of her nose. She eats and plays just fine but she can easily be found in the dark due to her breathing.. So I'm hoping I will find someone that either might know what I can do to relieve her...

Oh wow, poor thing. If you start a thread in the health & nutrition forum, someone who's had a cat with this condition is bound to come along with some ideas.

Are you keeping the new little one too?

How did it happen that you, a dog person, ended up rescuing 2 kitties in less than a year?

I know this may be a stupid question but have you tried l-lysine and if you have, have you tried different forms? Where I used to volunteer we would put l-lysine on the wet food of all the animals. (Yes, every single cat got wet food unless they didn't like it or couldn't have it due to a special diet, these kitties are SPOILED). The ones who couldn't eat wet food would get an l-lysing chew or tablet. Have you tried these? I have heard great things about l-lysine.

I really hope your baby finds relief soon!

Just a thought, have you had her teeth and mouth looked at?
If a cat has a bad tooth, it can escalate into a very bad sinus infection...
X-rays would be required to make sure a tooth isn't cracked and the gum infected...
A quick look by a vet, isn't a very sure thing, they often miss cracked teeth, especially far back in the mouth.

The other possibility, is polyps in her sinuses...
Again, x-rays to find out!

You could get both possibilities checked out at the same time!
Good Luck!

Oh yes definitely keeping the little one. He's a sweet heart. I know someone at work that fosters kittens and I've known them for about five years.. She would always come up to me to show me the kittens that she fostered and to see if I was interested. I would always tell her no. Then one day one of the kittens caught my eye cause she was Russian blue at least that's what they call her color and fell in love and went to the fosters house to meet greyce and applied to rescue her at the shelter. I love her sooo much I'm willing to do anything for her. Then two weeks ago my daughter met a foster at her school and saw Greyson which is the picture on my avatar and brought him home so I could see him and fell in love again. I couldn't say no and didn't even think twice. So ever since Greyson came here in the last two weeks greyce seems to have gotten sick.. I'm thinking she might be stressed or having a flair up because of a new kitten. The thing is they play and get along just fine. The only thing is most of the time the kitten wants to play and she wants to sleep so that might be stressing her out.

Hello,
Yes she is taking lysine and buffered c complex as part of her daily diet. She's been on it since she has had her respiratory problem. I have asked her vet for an X-ray to see and he told me there was no point because the blood work we did on her came back positive for feline herpes. He says her sinuses have gotten damaged from having so many infections that now any bacteria she inhales easily infects her. As far as teeth he's checked them but not to the point of actually checking to see if there cracked. Just as a basic check up. However, I'm going to make an appointment for her to at least get an X-ray for my piece of mind.
