just guessing, he doesn't like his new litter box. you might as well get him tested for a UTI, but i'd really try adding a litter box by your bed.

I had that bed wetting problem and it's no fun. mine didn't go on the carpet though. he also went right exactly when I lie/sit, so I was confused, but he was puddling, not spraying.

my cat started doing it after I had him about a year. he was 11 months old and I hadn't had him neutered yet, so I did, hoping it would stop. he has been tested extensively for UT problems since I got him at 8 weeks (he was dribbling blood from his urethra and we never found out why but he has been really healthy since--he was playing and active even then but when I see blood coming out of an animal, I don't take it lightly :))

I tried a temporary litter box at first, but he kicked all the litter out and turned it over, so I thought, "well that's not it," but it turns out it was, simply because I got his replacement (I fought this for 2 years and it is exhausting. I had tried every single thing that is posted anywhere on the internet--and some things that aren't--except for the bed-wetting alarm they use for children and I couldn't take it anymore) and put a litter box by my bed because the kitten was only 20 weeks old and guess what? he used it and never goes outside the box unless I leave a laundry basket out and I don't know what that's about. (hide the laundry, no problem) in retrospect, he may have been trying to use it and was just too vigorous, or else it just wasn't the "right" one. he does seem to be very picky about the type of box.

he was using the box I had but he still went out of his way to grace my bed with his urine. so he would use the box, he just wanted another one. I hated the tracking of litter (especially in my bed) so I bought a clevercat© and put it by my bed, and guess what? hee hee. immediately changed it back, everything was cool again.

I switched to wood pellet litter and that stopped the tracking, as long as I sift it everyday to remove the dust. I was really afraid he wouldn't like it so I did the other box first but he thought it was great. I knew a girl whose cat peed on her bed too, and putting a box by it solved it. not saying it works for everyone, but it's worth a try.

so if you try that and see what happens, if it doesn't work i'll tell you everything else I did lol.
