We had a huge snowstorm here yesterday, and I can't find any of my ferals! I'm assumimg they're holed up in the cat shelters I have all over my property, and in my shed where I've got straw and some heated cat beds-but the snow is still coming down, and I'm worried about what's going to become of them if they don't show up for food soon! This storm is suppose to last a couple more DAYS! How long can cats survive without food? True these are wild cats, and I should be this worried about them-but even feral cats need food!

Of course you should be so worried! I work in feral rescue, and although they're not cuddly, they're still my babies.

Anyway, just thought I'd touch on the "how long can they go without food" question. Cats can go up to 7-10 days without food. Of course, that's highly undesirable, but otherwise strong cats may survive that long. The more sensitive issue is water. They usually can only live 3-4 days without that. But, thankfully, the snow will provide them with adequate water, and hopefully, the condos you've provided them will be shelter enough.

I understand your concern, but like you, I believe they're in the shelters. If there weren't so many perhaps you could dig a path to the shed. They'll eat the snow and won't dehydrate, and can go for days without food. They'll appreciate a good meal when they can get out, I'm sure! I knew of another incident like this, and the cat was fine. Let us know about your progress, please.

They're all back! Most of them where in the shed when I finally made it there yesterday, and until I'm sure the storms are over, I'm making sure they've got a 10 lb feeder full of food in the shed every night.
