HI everyone, i found this website while i was in desperation of finding a solution to help my three year old cat (kevin) accept the arrival of the two new 8 week old kittens that my sister and i recieved for xmas, it has been six days now and he is still showing aggression not only to the kittens but also to other family members. I want to do this the right way, i realise that it has pushed his nose out of joint. Do any of you have any tips or ideas.
thanx heaps
rosie

One thing you can try is rubbing vanilla on the back of thier necks so they all have a familiar smell. Rubbing them with the smaem towel and letting them sleep on it can help.

from my experince i have a 14 year old cat, when i braught my first kitten intothe house with her she was not impressed, and she had always been with another cat (died of old age). Now a year later she will still not let my other cat near her, she growls hisses and goes to give her a swipe. she was grumy with us too at first, but came round to us, but like i said a year later she still hates the others i braught into the house.

Zalensia is right! also, you could try letting them know each other with similarities! Cats always try to find the differences about other cats (especially the older cat who thinks he is the boss!), so you should try showing them how alike they are. try to play with them all at the same time, so they would realize ho alike they actually are! + over a period of time they will all evntually learn to love each other ( or at least tolerate!). Happy bringing kitties together! :p

If your older cat likes wet food, give wet food when kittens are around, if your cat likes playing make sure to play with them all with some toys your older cat likes. Try to feed treats whenever cat goes near the kittens without being mean. Definitely try rubbing the vanilla on the other cats that way they all smell same and they can't hiss at one another for smelling funny cuz they all do! Tell us how it turns out! >><<
