I have been a cat lover my whole life. I have had cats since I was 7 years old. I currently have three bundles of joy. Their names are Daphne, Maggie, and Oliver.
I stumbled across this forum last night while desperately searching for knowledge and information regarding one of my cats who has been ill for the past two weeks. Maggie, my 8 year old, 18 pound cat, was recently diagnosed with IBD. She has had a rough time with being in and out of the vet for several day visits due to vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, etc. Even though my veterinarian, who only sees and specializes in cats, has done wonders for my "baby" I wanted to learn as much as I can about IBD, what to expect with a cat having this diagnosis, food suggestions, etc. I have so many questions and feel guilty to have taken up so much of his time already with his daily check up calls to us (even over the 4th of July and the days he's closed), questions, what ifs, etc. After scanning approximately 10 posts, I was able to gather so much information about IBD and how others are handling life with a with a cat who has IBD along with how to make the required adjustments with a multiple cat household. My Maggie has a such a bad spell that I was terrified she wouldn't pull through. There is nothing like waking up in hopes of being vomit free for 48 hours (the longest she had gone at that point) to find 6 vomit spots. Talk about heart breaking!!!! Since then, my vet switched her food again, and she has been vomit and diarrhea free for almost 72 hours, the longest in almost two weeks. Don't want to pull the cart before the horse, but either way, YAY! I'm hoping we are on our way to finding the balance she needs help keep this IBD at bay. We started the new food the night I found this forum and I found the information others have posted to be informative, helpful, and supportive. In a very LONG nutshell, that is how and why I decided to join.
