Horny cat

My cat is female, about 8 months old and has recently come on heat. We live in an apartment so she doesn't have any boyfriends to help her out. She's been walking around very strangely, rubbing herself on everything and crying in a strange deep throated wail that sounds like she's talking some weird language. My son explained the real reason: "she's got bugs so she's always scratching herself on things". This is the second time our cat has caught these bugs. This time it's been going on for about 5 days. There was only about a 2 week break from the last time. The thing is it is both nice and not nice. It's nice because she becomes so friendly, usually she's very bitey and scratchy and the kids are afraid to pick her up. With the bugs she is friendly, friendly to the point of seeming a bit kinky. The bad thing is that she's making so much noise especially during the night that it can wake us up. If we get her splayed, then she's probably just going to bite and scratch us for the rest of all eternity. Any suggestions? PS. She doesn't have fleas, worms or other parasites.

She's going to be in constant heat and discomfort until you have this poor girl fixed. Spay her to make her more comfortable and to prevent adding to the over population of cats.

Why do you think that? Not true at all, she will calm down and be a good kitty.

Lucy, you got some splaying to do!!!!
At 8 months, your cat is essentially a teenager, add in those hormones, and even though she's sweet and nice, she's still a crazy case. Spaying calms them, and as she matures, her 'purrrsonality' will come out. She'll grow to enjoy being petted and loved on. Our female cat Monkeys was nearly feral up until she was spayed. It took about 6 months for her to calm afterwards (as the hormones worked fully out of her system) but she became much more tolerant of us (and our other cats) As a matter of fact, she bonded after being spayed, to our 12 year old tuxedo cat, and they have been snuggle buddies ever since. Definitely get her spayed, asap. It will make hers, and your lives better.

If the personality thing doesn't sway you, unaltered female cats can spray urine. Nasty habit to break if you don't get her spayed if she starts.
She's going to continue to wake you up in the middle of the night every few weeks until you get her spayed. But worse than that, every heat cycle she goes through substantially increases her chance of developing potentially fatal mammary cancer later in life. There's no good reason to put her through the misery of repeated heats now or mammary cancer later. Get her spayed.
