Badness was very sick last week, she became dehydrated from vomitting,jaundiced, and nearly anemic. It looked like we were going to lose Her. All the Vets testing hasnt come up with any conclusions on why she was sick in the first place, during the first really bad episode last Friday She vomitted 13 times, and it was mostly slime, not Bile, slime ( sorry for the graphics). Saturday She was marginally better, but very weak, then Sunday She vomitted what looked like Leeches. Vet says that was blood clots from her stomach lining, which is very irritated because it is empty.
At this point We are giving Badness 300cc of Ringers Lactate per day sub-cutaneously to re-hydrate Her, along with anti-biotics, and Pepcid AC ( Vet Prescribed) to lessen the effect of stomach acid. We brought Her home from the Vet with an expensive prescription wet food that She WILL NOT eat. At this point We feel We are just keeping Her alive with the meds and Ringers, but She will not get better til She regains Her strength by eating. She has surprising strength for such a sick little Girl, when She sees the syringe of watered down food, She literally starts gagging before it touches Her lips. Any good tips on how to get food into Her would be helpful, as wiping it on Her lips in hopes that She licks it up, isnt very productive, but for now its all We have

Oh I'm so sorry for you and your kitty...
I'm curious what the vet has said about how to get her to eat the prescription food? I feel like he/she must have had experience with that sort of thing...
Has Badness expressed an interest in any other wet food? Or maybe baby food? It seems as though eating something, even if it weren't the prescription food, would be better than nothing... I'm sorry I can't help you more.... hopefully somebody else will have some ideas. Good luck!!

thnx for reply..Vets idea was to dilute the Rx food and use a syringe to force feed Her..She literally gags before it touches her, and sprays it all over if we actually get any in Her mouth. The other 3 kittys are having a Smorgasbord with all the varieties of soft food, but I havent tried baby food yet, gonna run out and get something with chicken in it

If the baby food doesn't work you could try pouring a bit of tuna juice over her food. I am so sorry she is this poorly. Please let us know how she gets on. Sending good vibes over to you.

Brian, that's really upsetting. I'm glad she's being fed intravenously. If food by mouth makes her nauseous, perhaps her stomach is still too sensitive. I would ask for some guidance on that. Perhaps you can just moisten her lips a bit. I'm so sorry she's going through this, and that you have this terrible worry. I am saying a prayer that the vet will find the answer. God bless. You need a second opinion, and fast. This cat needs a feeding tube (either esophogus or stomach) so you can get food into her. With liver disease, a feeding tube is often necessary. Your other option is force-feeding her for several weeks, which she may not tolerate; if she vomits what you force-feed her, you're done. Without eating, her chances are not good, and she's probably too nauseous to eat and will not do so on her own. Please visit an emergency clinic if you can tomorrow, or find a cat specialist or good surgeon on Monday.

Try Nutrical on the paws of her feet. She will lick up her paws to clean and she will at least get some nutrients inside of her. Try Fancy Feast or some other type of cheap food for now and see if she may eat that. I hope your cat gets better and let us know what happens! Good luck (((=

Update...Thnx for Your reply Dr.Jean, the mention of liver disease got Me doing more research, and all the symptoms totally fit this situation. The biggest worry is to get food into Her, and the urgency has given Me more resolve to do just that. I wish the first Vet had given Us more information, but I doubt She was looking in the right direction

Badness had 6cc of the Hills Rx food 2 hours ago and as of yet has not vomitted, so We cross Our fingers( and the Thumbnail that She bit thru during force feeding ). The Vet We took Her to is 4 hours drive west of here, and the only other alternative is 5 hours drive east, We have called His emergency number to set up meeting Him there, but his service says He will be on the road this week, and therefore cannot do anything for Us at His clinic, however He will be here in Our town on Wednesday. So, We need to maintain until then.

I'm so glad Badness has kept the food down. If she punctured your nail and flesh, please ask the doctor what treatment you need. That's a rough spot to get and keep clean, and the bacteria in the cat's mouth could be harmful.
