Anyone have any ideas? She prefers the throw rugs at the moment. Why did I buy that expensive post?! :roll:

Take some kitty nip and rub it all over, not just sprinkling it on. Your cat should be attracted to the scratching post then. You could also try placing the post where your kitty usually scratches like against the couch or near a rug.

It took alot of training to get my cats to use the scratching post but with lots of stern talk, some catnip and many relocations to the cat scratcher (we moved them when they were scratching the wrong thing) they finally learned (it also took a few shakes of the squirt bottle)... now they don't even try to scratch anything else, only the scratcher.... good luck
