I had hoped it wouldn't come to this, but sadly it has.

Ika has been opening cupboards and other various things for quite some time now, but recently the other 2 have started copying her. (Kai more so than Kam)

A month ago Ika got into the cupboards and proceeded to consume some cashews and part of a mango. Two weeks ago she did the same to some cashew chicken curry and rice that was defrosting in the cupboard also. (for obvious reasons, I can't leave things to defrost on the bench any more)

I came home last night to find the 1.5 kg lamb roast I was going to cook for dinner on the floor, half eaten and 3 cats with very large and distended stomachs.

They must have combined forces to open the fridge while I was still at work.

So any suggestions about how to cat-proof all the cupboards, drawers, fridges and freezers etc would be welcome. This isn't the first time they have raided something for food (they have broken into their dry food before) and I suspect it won't be the last time they make an attempt either.

Any suggestions? Especially for the fridge and freezer?

There are childproof locks or magnetic closure thingys you can get for the cupboards. Don't know about the refrigerator! That's a pretty strong cat to be able to open the refrigerator door!

Wow, that's truly amazing...combining forces to open a fridge?? Sorry, I find it kinda funny and yes....amazing!

Well in our house, we keep all dry foods in cabinets (thank god they haven't figured it out ...yet). If it's cooked food we keep it in the oven, microwave, toaster oven or on top of the washer in the laundry room with the door closed.

My cats are like that too. I have had to buy childproof locks and put on EVERYTHING

Just go to home Depot or Walmart and buy alot !
^^ been there. had to get clip locks for my fridge.. may have to do it again, Jack is back to raiding it now that her realized the new fridge doesn't lock...

I also had to get doorknob covers for awhile because he can turn the knobs and let himself out and the chain lock didn't prevent him from squeezing out.. and he HATES going outside.. he just opened the doors for the rest

Yeah the claw marks all over the fridge attest to the fact that it was them. (needless to say I'm not happy about the claw marks)

Thank you Nan for the links and to everyone for responding.

Opening doors in general is another thing Ika does, I think I'm going to have to find some of those door handle covers too.

Thank you everyone for your help.
