How to get my new kitten to warm up to me?

Good for you for adopting your cats! It's great that the kitten is getting along with the other cats, especially since that's often the biggest hurdle. Some cats just take a long time to get used to a new environment and new people, but you're doing everything right by letting him come to you and interacting with him on his own terms, so he probably just needs more time to settle in.

One suggestion is, when he smells your hands, don't try to pet him, just talk to him in a quiet voice. Let him take a sniff and leave. If he rubs against you or bumps his head on your hands, just pet him gently around his face, neck, and chin, and only for a few seconds. Try to stop before he withdraws or over-reacts so you end on a positive note. Once he's comfortable, you could gradually increase the length of time and where you pet him. The key to the whole thing is time, patience, and only move on to the next step when the first one is completely accomplished.

A word of warning... cats sometimes roll on their backs, show their belly, and look like they want a belly-rub. Do not be fooled by this adorable behavior! Until you know your cats very well and what they can tolerate, just tell them how cute they are but do not touch. Bleeding will ensue. You could google how to read cat postures so you know what to watch for.

Keep up the good work and let us know how things are going!
