It turns my cats into puddles of fear. I was with Mow to keep him quiet, I decided to check on the other two. I found Book hiding in the bathtub.

When I opened Neelix's door and called him, his head popped up from behind the chair and RAN to me. Book joined us and climbed into the armchair next to me......

I left Neelix and Book together in the kitten's room. At least they can huddle together. I'll have to alternate until the fireworks stop.

I hate not being able to comfort them ALL when they need me..

Poor babies...it is very scary for them....I wish I was home to comfort mine...
Some of them are probably squished under the bed...

Maybe you could have MowMow, Book and Nelix all in one room while the fireworks are going??

No, If Book is already stressed he'll go after Mow at warp speeds.

Book and Neelix both seem much calmer now that they are together. They are huddled together on the armchair in the kitten room, I just checked on them. Much better than back of chair and in bathtub.

No that wouldn't be a good thing, if Book went after MowMow...:(
Sending calming vibes your way...
as well as to mine at home...
It'll be over soon, I hope!

I'm with you, I hat the 4th too for the same reason! I had a dog for 14 years that hid in the bathtub and shook every 4th of July and/or thunderstorms. I was sooo happy that we had a tropical storm yesterday lol - NO fireworks!! :devil We have had some random ones this week though and these three cats didn't seem to be fearful but who know with the full-on display if they would have.

I don't hat e the 4th, just the neighbors who let off the fireworks (which are prohibited in our state). Pepper was hiding the whole night. When I went to bed I grabbed her to cuddle her and as soon as I put the comforter over me she hid underneath of it by my legs. She didn't leave for hours. Breathing heavy and "sweating".

The neighbors here have a huge 4th celebration, on the beach with tons of fireworks. The show is as good as or better than the surrounding cities.
Needless to say, Artie was beside himself with all the noise!
I had to closed the blinds, drapes were shut tight, the AC was on, and the TV was loud.
He was on my lap and ran as soon as they started! He was fast pacing around here, trying to find a place to hide. In years past he has been under my bed.
The Vet gave me a mild natural sedative for time like this. It is zyklene.
I grabbed him and gave him a capsule.
A few minutes later, at a lull in the action, he jumped on my lap.
When they started up again, his ears went back he stared all around the room, but did not run. He stayed with me and even curled up and dozed!
I would say that medication was a success!!! and it did not take very long to work..
I heard it was a great show. I did not see it, I was with Artie...

I also hate the 4th. I just can’t take the fireworks anymore and not only for the animals sake but for me too. It just takes a toll on my nerves not only because it sounds like a war zone, but also for fire danger. We are in a severe drought with a high risk of fire and I just don’t think a bunch of drunks can be too safe. :cussing
We got a new family that moved in the neighborhood and I just don’t know what it is with some cultures that think they have to bring out the heavy artillery for every occasion. I have not been out front yet this morning, but it wouldn’t surprise me if there were pot holes in the street from the blasts that I heard last night. And I’m sure the street is filled with beer bottles as well.

My cats are still in hiding and I had to stand fire watch most of the night outside while comforting the dogs who were trying to bust through the glass door to get inside.

I HATE 4th of July!

I spent the night with Arwen on the front porch. I tried for hours before dark to get her to come into the garage, but she just wouldn't. I moved her cat cube/house close to the front door and she hid out in that all night, and I sat out there with her from 6 to 10, and played music on my phone for her. When she spent nights in my garage this winter, I always left the radio on low for her, and it seemed to sooth her, so I thought I'd try again with the music and it did help. She even was laying down, chin resting and everything. I

Inside, I kept the tv loud, blinds closed, and they were all all a little freaked, but we managed to keep it loud enough that they got through it Ok, but they did not like it one bit. The dog would NOT pee last night before going to bed, and this was 10:30, after it had pretty much died down. But there were fireworks still sounding in the distance, so she refused to pee.

So glad it's over. You know there will be more clowns out tonight again with more though, at least that's the way it usually goes around here, especially with it being a weekend :(

Pepper went on a really low crawl, when the first fireworks went off. I haven't seen her ever do that. Today she is fine, but she hasn't eaten her food completely yet. :-/

They have been setting off fireworks for several days around here. Merlin is so chill that he doesn't even notice. However, my puppy Echo wants nothing more than to be in my lap and she weighs 65lbs.

I cannot wait until the firework shows are over.

It actually worked out quite well. With Book and Neelix in the back bedroom, I was able to let MowMow out into the apartment with his cone last night.

That meant once the noises stopped (one last big boom around 12:30) I was able to sleep really well for the first time since Tuesday night.

That will be the new sleeping arrangement until Book decides that MowMOw is not evil (or MowMow is well enough to defend himself).

Have you tried the vanilla on the back of their necks trick?

Yup. Also scent swapping with brushes/ switching rooms/ rubbing towels. I do all 3 scent swapping each day. Did the vanilla twice, Wednesday and Yesterday.

That's what makes me thinks it's about Neelix.

This morning Book and Mow met up and sniffed noses. There were no issues. Everyone was getting along fine. Neelix was busy playing. Then Neelix saw Mow on the window sill behind the blinds and wanted to bat at him. MowMow got pretty vocal about it (hissing and growling) and here comes Book running across the room with his tail puffed up. I intercepted Book and calmed him down, then redirected Neelix with a toy and after a short standoff, Book followed Neelix and is now quietly watching him play.

I really can't figure out if it's the noise or protecting Neelix.

When I got home last night, I was swarmed by everyone! I stayed up an extra hour, just to give pets and scritches!!
Finally everyone knew it was "Safe" again!

My poor senior cat, Bud, really hates the 4th...so he sleeps in the bunker (the closet in my parents' bedroom) until the weekend has past. Gracie on the other hand doesn't seem to mind it at all. The first cat I've owned that could say that about....go figure....

It's not as bad as when I lived at the beach, but we can still hear the Sea World fireworks.

EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT.

At least at this new place, not one person set off any fireworks (at least after I got home). Very, very nice change. My jerk neighbors at the beach tossed M-80's in my backyard. Randomly, every week or so.

I thought about going back and doing something vengeful after I moved, but I had to let it go. I refused to let them make me as evil as they were. (jerks! I had kind of forgotten about that until this week)
