I noticed Thursday that she has a bump on her tummy. It kinda feels like maybe one of her ribs is trying to poke through. I showed it to my husband and we both agreed to give it a day or two and see if it heals or goes away. He thought it might be like a hernia (sp?). Anyway, so yesterday it seemed bigger and he thought maybe it was a bone too. Now today she doesn't want to jump up on anything or jump down from anywhere and whenever I pick her up she cries like it hurts her. She doesn't like me to touch it and cries when she has to jump up or down on anything. The rest of her behavior is normal (except she's been sleeping in her bed rather than ours this week).

We really can't afford to take her to the vet right now (my husband just started a new job after being unemployed for a long time and I only sub teach - so it's not everyday). Anyone have any idea of what might be wrong?? She's not very old - about 3 years - and she's had all of her shots and she's fixed. I can't figure out what might have happened to her or what is wrong. :( Please help!

Either way she needs to go to the vets NOW a broken rib could mean it is hurting her to breath, and if left untreated risks damaging the lungs.
If it is a hurnea then that is even more serious. A hurnea is a hole in the body lining- i think what holds the digestive system in- ie inteines etc etc. You say it is getting bigger which leads me more to beleive a hurnea, this is serious as it can strangle the intestines, which obviously leads to death. This cat needs emergency vet treatment imediatly, dont put it off, or i know this sounds nasty, u may loose your cat.

I can't take her in until Monday - but I gotta find a new vet here. I just moved here a few months ago - and haven't had to take her to vet for anything. It doesn't seem to be getting really bigger....but more like it's hurting her more and more. Part of what sways me from taking her in is that she is still playful - as long as I don't touch that part of her tummy.

Sometimes she over eats (especially with soft food) and throws it up. I've been giving her smaller amounts so that she doesn't do this, but she seems to be doing it more lately. Could this be related?

I would still take her to the vets, when my cats came back from the vets after being spayed they were very sore on thier sides, but they would play, but if u touched them anywhere near thier wounds they would pull away from you.

basically this lump doesnt sound normal, and if it doesnt look/sound right i probibly shouldnt be there, and warrents a vet visit.

Thanks for your replies. I'll definitely take her in tomorrow. I'm just hoping it's something that will go away on it's own because we can't afford anything major. :| My poor kitty. :(

If you wanna see a picture of her - I've got several on my webpage. Go to the link below and scroll to the bottom (after the rainbows and flowers and stuff there is a shrine to my Sugar).

There is a slideshow too after that called Catfight. It's not really a catfight persay, it's more of her being jealous of our bird. :)

Well....I don't know if this is good or bad. I took her to the vet today. The vet said it isn't a hernia. So that is good. But he says if it's a broken bone - which it feels like, it's been broken for a while - in other words, it's not a fresh break. Why it's showing up now, I don't know. He says it's possible that she fell and hurt herself now and that might have irritated it. If that's the case, it should get a little smaller...but not go away. He says if it's what he thinks it is, it's a calous from an old injury.

The down side to that is if it doesn't get smaller, but gets bigger, he says it's likely a tumor. :( So if it gets bigger, my kitty has to go back and get an xray. He stressed that I bring her back in if it gets bigger - which as I said, it already seems to be getting bigger. I'm not a good judge of those things - so hopefully between my husband and myself, we'll figure out what's going on. If it turns out it's a tumor (I won't know until after she has xrays and that won't be for probably another month), I'll let ya'll know.

Thanks for the great feedback and info.
