There are 2 kitties - both brothers - at the humane society where I volunteer that I want sooooo bad. Their names are calvin and hobbes. I unfortunately can only have 2 cats at my apartment. They are the sweetest things. They really like me too. One seems really malnourished. They are trying to beef him up but he is only half the size of his brother. I think he must have been a runt because even if he plumps up he will still be small. He is going to need special care for a while.

While volunteering today this woman and her 2 bratty kids came in and were looking at calvin and hobbes. The people looked very dirty and just...I don't know. I didn't get a good vibe. I have a feeling these cats would be fed dry food only and would never get brought to the vet. The humane society does a thorough screening of potential adoptees but I am still nervous. I was brushing the kitties at the time through their cage and when the woman and kids approached me the first thing she asked was "how much are they?". I don't know why but it rubbed me the wrong way. maybe I am just overreacting/overanalyzing but I just want them to go to a good home since they can't go to mine.

Here is a link. They are on this page. Calvin and Hobbes

If you look at an animal that needs a home, and ask about the price the very first thing it would rub me wrong also...a lack of thinking of it as a living creature, not merchandise to be bought... I hope the babies find loving homes :)

Can you talk to the person in charge of
the adoptions? I would tell her what the
woman said and your concern for the
well being of the cats with them. The Humane
Society here does turn people away that they
feel arent suitable familys.

I beleive your intuition is telling you
the truth about these people. I hope they
dont get these kitties. ~Fingers crossed.~

When people have come in to my shelter and
I didnt like them Ive gone a told the director
my concerns & theyve discourage the people
and sent them away

I say, trust your gut. If that woman and her kids rubbed you the wrong way, I wouldn't hesitate to say something.

Your place says you can only have 2 cats, huh? Otherwise, do you have the time/money/love to give these two? My last place I wasn't supposed to have any cats, and I had one. I say, sneak 'em in! 8) But if you get evicted, you don't know me...

Same here. I was only supposed to have two, but I have five.

I think more often than not, that is the case with us pet-owning renters! What the landlord don't know, can't hurt him.

I'm just thankful we have our own house now, and we can do whatever we want! (Like add another kitty!)

I rent and the humane society where I volunteer will call your landlord and get approval before giving you the kitty. As I said they are very thorough.
