Hi. I have an eight year old female American Shorthair cat. She has always been slighty plump, not overweight, but simply a little extra meat on her bones. Anyways, recently I have noticed that she is losing a little weight. In addition, when she yawns or licks her lips, she has difficulty with her jaw. It sort of quivers and shakes when she shuts it. I have no idea what this means. I am going to take her to vet within the next week, but I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some insight on what this jaw thing could be a symptom of. Thanks!

Sounds like she has some cavities. These are very painful and so can cause the jaw chattering you saw. It probably hurts to eat with those rotten teeth and so she is losing weight. I would take her to the vet as soon as you can!
