Is this normal for a cat?

My cat is a little over a year old, and his meow used to be very high pitched and girlie. The last few days though, it is really scratchy and kind of deep. Is this normal or could something be wrong? :? My bf desribes it as if my cat has lyringitis or something. Poor little guy. http://www.geocities.com/snuggle_chick69/gill.html

I'm certain a cat's voice can change with age, just like a puppy or young child. I would also guess that certain medical conditons (upper resp infections, etc.) could possibly effect a cat's voice.
