Hi everybody,

Has anyone else noticed that when your cat is eating, he/she is unintentionally pushing the food away with their tongue to the back of the bowl, and eventually gets frustrated and ends up walking off?

Pretty much everyday after i've fed my cats, the food left over is always pushed to the back of the bowls.

I actually stood and watched them eat yesterday and found that when i manually turn the bowl around half way through their meal, they finished that whole thing.

Handy trick to ensure you aren't wasting/throwing away food daily.

Quite interesting, just wondering if anyone else has noticed this

Yes! Some of my cats do that. Not all. Buy a flat bowl it’s much easier for them to eat out of because of their whiskers. Sometime I I too push the food in a little teepee the food and they eat that way once it flattens down. I bought flat dishes actually I gave them one of my plates and food was all gone.

Yes, I'm always scooping stuff off the floor and the rim of the dish, and making little piles of 'seconds.' Turning the dish around is a good idea, but I have a nervous boy who won't come out to eat if I'm in the room. I'll try a plate tomorrow. Then there's the guy who refuses to eat dry food in a dish... flings it out and eats it off the floor. (But of course not all of it!) Cats!

My cat almost always waste his food. One day, I tried hand feeding him the leftovers, and he cleared all the food. You may want to try this method.

My cat does the same! And I follow the same trick as yours.

It could be whisker fatigue. There are special dishes to help with that. I bought one for a foster kitten who had that issue. With the new dish she was eating all her meals. I sent the dish home With her when she was adopted. It wasn't overly expensive. No more than a regular dish at Petsmart.
